Welcome to Week 4 everyone.

If you are not aware, there has been a lot of attention in the media about the current negotiations around the Government’s proposal of a “global budget” for education. Educators and Unions from early childhood to secondary schooling are uniting to respond to the Government’s latest funding proposal in which schools may be forced to trade off the costs of teaching staff against other costs.

Next week we will be sending home a letter informing you of the upcoming joint paid union meeting to be held at the Horncastle Arena on Wednesday 7 September at 1:30pm. It is important to note that our teachers are parents too and more often than not vote against strikes and meetings during school time. The staff at St Patrick’s have agreed to keep the school open all day and send Staff from both the Senior and Junior Syndicates as representation.

Please click on the following Radio NZ link for a three minute breakdown of what the Government’s proposal could mean for our schools and children.
