Our Parish

The Sisters of Mercy founded the School in 1951. The Sisters of Jesus and Mary succeeded the Mercy sisters in 1962.

The Charism of these religious orders, together with gospel values, enable us to provide all children with quality education in a supportive and caring environment. Our School maintains a close relationship with our local parish. A collaborative partnership exists between parish, parents, students and the school. The quality of these relationships is the key the success of our school.

Our School

St Patrick's School front gateSt Patrick’s School is a state-integrated Catholic full primary school that provides quality education for children aged five to thirteen in the Parish of The Holy Trinity. The school is situated in the heart of Christchurch servicing the suburbs of Bryndwr, Fendalton, Merivale and Strowan. The school complex consists of four classroom blocks containing eight classrooms with an attached administration area well resourced and computerised library and a learning support unit.

Included in the school grounds are two adventure playgrounds, two tennis courts, two netball courts, a basketball court, sandpit and children’s gardens. The school also has use of the Parish Hall and Church that sit adjacent to the school site.

The school is well equipped technologically, with interactive white boards and laptop computers in all classrooms. Extra-curricula programmes are offered to pupils in the form of kapa haka, choir, dance and drama. The school has developed partnerships with a number of local music tutors who offer guitar, piano and keyboard lessons. Outdoor education is a strong feature of the school with students being involved in annual swimming lessons, weekly interschool sport, camps and a variety of topic related trips.

An after school programme is operated in the school grounds. The programme provides child supervision from 3.00pm to 5.30pm each weekday. It is well equipped and operates a programme that children love to attend.

The school is staffed with a non-teaching Principal and seven classroom teachers working in two teams led by the Leadership Team which consists of the Principal, DP, Senior Team Leader and DP, Junior Team Leader. St Patrick’s School has a number of support staff including an Office Administrator, Librarian and Release teachers who help us make the school a wonderful place to learn.

St Patrick’s School operates a comprehensive Learning Support programme that not only supports the learning of students with special needs but also enhances the learning of those students who are operating at accelerated achievement standards. This programme is supported by a Learning Support teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, SPELD tutor, Teacher Aides and a variety of support agencies which including RTLB, RTLit, Speech Therapist, Psychologist and Health Nurse.
